Salvatore Sciarrino

Salvatore Sciarrino

was born in Palermo in 1947.
He is a musical autodidact and was encouraged by Antonio Titone (Luigi Rogniniís assistant, Institute for Music History at the University of Palermo) and Turi Belfione (composer and university lecturer) for some time. He began to compose at the tender age of twelve; in 1952, one of his works was performed publicly for the first time at the Terza Settimana Internazionale di Nuova Musica in Palermo; in 1969 he moved to Rome; contact with Franco Evangelisti; he then moved to Milan where he taught composition at the conservatory; today Sciarrino lives in Citta di Castello (Perugia); he lectures at the conservatory in Florence and teaches several further educational courses; the catalogue of his works include 130 titles; this does not include the works he composed before 1965, because he considers them only learning experiments.
